In His Footsteps
Written and directed by Shelley Taylor
In His Footsteps, a 55 minute documentary, follows one mother’s journey to find meaning in life after she lost her only child. Shelley had Shaka when she was 19 years old and he died at the age of 32. Ten months later, she lost the business she founded and where they had worked together. This film is a chronicle of her emotional voyage as she goes from hopelessness to resilience. It taps into a profoundly universal problem of human experience: how we cope with loss. We see the practical steps she took to find meaning in life once again. We see how she set up a pop-up restaurant in her house and then took it around the world, from London to Berlin, New York, Los Angeles and Silicon Valley. In doing so, she traced her son’s steps in these cities where he was an actor, writer and chef. It is a story about the transformative power of optimism and action. It is, ultimately, a story about hope.
Several singer songwriters have generously agreed to have their music as part of this film. The documentary will feature live performances from these artists. Goapele, the American R&B Singer Songrwriter performed at Shelley’s former company launch party and was a long time friend of her son, and now Shelley. Chrissi Poland has contributed two of her songs, one of which she performed live at one of the Nomad Chef pop-up dinners in New York. Alex Berger, winner of the American Independent Music awards for the best story song, has also contributed a song to the film.
In His Footsteps is now available for distribution.
